Ueslei C. Nascimento

Author and owner of the Day Zero Playbook

Software engineer. Born in Ituberá, in rural Bahia, Brazil, he has been programming since he was 15. The first system he wrote standardised the artificial pollination of cocoa. A student in Bahia's Sixth Military Region, he started out at an OSCIP (a Brazilian non-profit) tied to the Odebrecht Foundation, in communications. He studied computer science engineering at Universidade Veracruzana in Mexico, where he maintained the web and back-end systems of Odebrecht projects.

He went as far as teaching programming, then decided his path was really about putting solutions into production. He opened his own company and in 2016 moved to southern Brazil, developing ERP systems for business-critical environments. Years later he moved into RTLS and real-time 3D map rendering at Ztrax, part of the Spacecomm group; he started in precision algorithms and went on to lead the front-end team. He is now tech lead of the Connect team at Jacto. His education includes a degree in information systems and three postgraduate courses: software engineering with a focus on testing, software analysis and design, and back-end development.

The Day Zero Playbook comes out of that path: the work done before the first line of code — aligning business and technology, giving every decision an owner, leaving a handoff another team can pick up — is what separates a project that delivers from one that redoes.
